Fourth of July

This year, NYC's fireworks were launched over the Hudson River, rather than their usual spot on the east side of the island. This was great for us--we live a stone's throw away from the Hudson! We headed over to join the crowd of spectators and discovered that the elevated West Side Highway was closed to cars so that pedestrians could view the show! It was weird standing underneath the highway signs.

Looking across the river, we had a nice view of the sun setting over New Jersey.
Soon the blast-off began!!! There were five barges in the water (brought to you by Macy's) that were shooting off their fireworks simultaneously.

Our kitty Bijou passed away on the evening of July 2nd. She was six years old. I got her from the pound in Austin when she was a tiny kitten. She was a wonderful pet--very low maintenance, sweet, loving, and beautiful. She liked having her belly rubbed, lying on a sunny windowsill, and playing with her favorite toy (a fishing pole-type thing with a foil "lure" at the end of it). Every morning she cuddled my neck. Now it's hard to get up knowing that I won't hear her little paws running to greet me. Goodbye, sweet Bijou. We miss you so much.
