As many of you know, I have recently reached a milestone in my PhD program: turning in my Qualifying Paper. The QP is a massive essay--definitely the largest writing project I've ever undertaken (yet nothing compared to the dissertation). It takes months of planning, research, collaboration with two professors, and several drafts (four, in my case).
What linguistic topic could I have possibly filled up 40 pages on, you ask? Merely the semantic difference between the conjunction "and" and the conjunction "but." In other words, the linguistic differences between the phrases "X and Y" and "X but Y."
Yep. That's it.
Anyway, I now have my life back! On my list of things to do are the following.
Take lots more pictures!
Snuggle with the kitty!
Maybe go back to Paris!
Play pool!
Sing karaoke!
Me in like a month.
